other Whales Underwater tour options can be found here

Join photographer Emma Rowan-Kelly for eight unforgettable days of in-water encounters with the humpback whales on your 11 night holiday in the Kingdom of Tonga’s famous Vava’u Group of Islands.

Your whale watching days will be spent with Emma and our on-water crew of specialist Licensed Whale Swimming Skippers and Guides.

Your off-water time will be at Talau House, our home-stay style guesthouse in Nieafu, on the main island of Vava’u. Here you and Emma will join with Darren Jew (lead photographer and founder of Whales Underwater) and his group, for editing and processing “lab-time”. Both Darren and Emma will assist you to bring out the best in your images, with the aim that you get great images of the whales and improve your photography generally, from whatever level you may start.

Sydney-based photographer Emma Rowan-Kelly has a passion to capture all aspects of life on earth.

Through her photography Emma seeks out moments that create a connection between her subject and the viewer, with an aim of encouraging empathy for the environment and for all those that share it.

Emma has journeyed to over 90 countries and territories during the past 15 years, including the high Arctic, Sub‐Antarctic, Iran, Bhutan, Colombia, Tibet, The Galapagos Islands, remote and uninhabited islands of Kiribati, Tonga, Greenland & Nicaragua – locations that attract the curious explorer, fascinated by the paths less travelled.

Her best‐selling 2011 exhibition “Innocent Arctic” was sponsored by National Geographic / Lindblad Expeditions and Wentworth Travel with 35% of profits donated to WWF Adopt a Polar Bear program.

Emma has both a fine arts and travel professional background and is a former student of both the Sydney Institute of Photography and the National Art School. Her passion for the diverse beauty found underwater and the incredible moments of joyful interaction have seen her return again and again to the furthest corners of the world to capture the wonders of these pristine environments.

She is arranging and leading photography tours to Antarctica, the Arctic and the Galapagos Islands as well as other destinations in collaboration with Darren Jew.

Emma is also working on her next solo exhibition, which will feature Daguerreotypes, the oldest form of photography.
